Fundamental principles of aquaculture; the status of aquaculture in Türkiye and worldwide; major cultured species (European sea bass, gilthead sea bream, and rainbow trout); aquaculture production systems; water quality; fish nutrition and feeding; broodstock management; reproduction and hatchery practices; juvenile rearing; growth and stock management; fish diseases and biosecurity; harvesting and transportation; fish welfare; farm management; record keeping; sustainable aquaculture practices; and current technologies in aquaculture.
This course aims to provide students with fundamental knowledge and practical understanding of aquaculture. The course focuses on the farming of economically important species in Türkiye, particularly European sea bass, gilthead sea bream, and rainbow trout. Topics include aquaculture production systems, water quality management, fish nutrition, reproduction, hatchery management, disease control, biosecurity, harvesting, and farm management. Sustainable production practices and current aquaculture technologies are also discussed to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills required for aquaculture production.
