The primary objective of this course is to provide students with both theoretical and practical knowledge of loss assessment processes following insured events, the legal framework of insurance loss adjusting, and methods for calculating indemnities and depreciation in various insurance lines, including motor, fire, engineering, and marine insurance. The course aims to equip students with the skills necessary to assess insurance claims and apply relevant valuation and compensation principles in different insurance contexts.
This course comprehensively covers the insurance claims management process, from the notification of a loss event to the payment of indemnity. Students learn how to conduct loss assessments in major insurance lines such as motor, fire, engineering, marine cargo, and liability insurance. The course also covers technical calculations including depreciation, underinsurance and overinsurance, salvage, and subrogation. In addition, students gain knowledge of loss adjusting report writing techniques, insurance fraud, and the decisions of the Insurance Arbitration Commission through the analysis of real-life cases.
| 1. | Students will be able to explain the main stages of the insurance claims process (claim notification, appointment of a loss adjuster, loss assessment, and indemnity payment) and describe the legal status of insurance loss adjusters. |
| 2. | Students will be able to assess material damages arising from motor insurance claims, determine liability ratios, and calculate vehicle depreciation in accordance with current legislation and regulations. |
| 3. | Students will be able to analyze specific loss assessment methods and policy exclusions in different insurance lines, including fire, engineering, marine cargo, and agricultural insurance. |
| 4. | Students will be able to calculate the impact of technical insurance concepts such as underinsurance, overinsurance, deductibles, salvage, and subrogation on the amount of indemnity payable in claims files. |
| 5. | Students will be able to transform field findings related to an insured loss event into a legally valid loss adjusting report in accordance with general and special insurance policy conditions. |
