The aim of this course is to teach the morphological characteristics, propagation methods, cultivation requirements, maintenance practices, and use of bulbous, tuberous, cormous, and rhizomatous ornamental plants in landscape design and cut flower production. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to recognize economically important bulbous and tuberous ornamental plant species and evaluate their production and maintenance processes in accordance with basic professional principles.
The course covers the definition, classification, morphological characteristics, ecological requirements, propagation methods, planting time and planting techniques, maintenance practices, lifting, storage and preservation conditions, disease and pest management, and the use of bulbous and tuberous ornamental plants in landscape design and cut flower production. Important species such as tulip, daffodil, hyacinth, lily, gladiolus, freesia, iris, dahlia, begonia, anemone, and ranunculus are discussed as examples.
