The aim of this course is to examine the interactions between human activities and the natural environment, the causes and consequences of environmental degradation, sustainable environmental management approaches, and solution strategies for contemporary environmental problems. The course focuses on ecosystem functioning, natural resource use, environmental pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable development in order to enhance students’ environmental awareness and analytical skills.
This course examines the concepts of environment, human–environment interactions, and the fundamental characteristics of ecological systems. Environmental problems arising from population growth, urbanization, industrialization, and natural resource consumption are evaluated in relation to air, water, and soil pollution, waste management, climate change, biodiversity loss, and energy consumption. Furthermore, environmental policies, sustainable development principles, green infrastructure applications, and nature-based solutions are discussed through contemporary case studies.
| 1. | Explain the fundamental concepts of environment and ecology and interpret human–environment interactions. |
| 2. | Analyze the causes and impacts of major environmental problems, including air, water, and soil pollution. |
| 3. | Evaluate contemporary environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and the sustainable use of natural resources. |
| 4. | Explain environmental protection, sustainable development, and environmental management approaches. |
| 5. | Critically evaluate solution strategies for environmental problems at local and global scales. |
