Objectives of the Course

To teach the historical development, classification, and management principles of protected areas; and to raise students’ awareness of biodiversity conservation, sustainable environmental management, and the protection of natural resources.

Course Content

This course covers the definition and historical development of protected areas, conservation biology and ethical principles, IUCN protected area categories, national parks, nature parks, natural monuments, nature conservation areas, wildlife development areas, protected forests, special environmental protection areas, biosphere reserves, Ramsar sites, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and biodiversity hotspots in Türkiye.

2.Classifies types of protected areas (national parks, nature parks, Ramsar sites, etc.).
3.Evaluates conservation biology and the IUCN classification system.

5.Evaluates strategies for biodiversity and natural resource conservation.
