Objectives of the Course

The aim is to teach students the basic principles of biological control, an environmentally friendly approach to managing pests, diseases, and weeds in agricultural production; and to provide them with practical and technical application skills in identifying macro and microorganisms, mass production, release methods, and monitoring their effectiveness in nature.

Course Content

The importance of biological control, its basic methods, and biological control agents are explained. The use and production of biological control agents are demonstrated practically. The advantages and challenges of biological control are taught.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the fundamental concepts, history, and importance of biological control within Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
2.Morphologically identifies key predator and parasitoid groups and evaluates their effectiveness in nature.
3.Classifies entomopathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses, and nematodes) and understands their mechanisms of action.
4.Develops technical knowledge and skills regarding the extraction of biological control agents from nature, mass production in laboratory conditions, formulation, and storage conditions.
5.Practically applies techniques for the conservation, support, and release of natural enemies into the field.
