To enable students to understand soil formation, classification, physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil, and the relationship between soil and plant growth; and to develop skills in sustainable soil management practices within organic agriculture.
This course covers soil formation, structure, and classification, as well as the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil. Soil–plant relationships, soil fertility, organic matter, water and air balance, and the principles of plant nutrition are examined. In addition, soil sampling methods, evaluation of soil analyses, sustainable soil management practices in organic agriculture, soil conservation methods, and erosion control are discussed. At the end of the course, students are expected to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate soil properties and apply soil management practices suitable for organic production systems.
| 1. | Explain soil formation processes. |
| 2. | Evaluate soil properties. |
| 3. | Interpret soil–plant relationships. |
| 4. | Apply appropriate soil management practices in organic agriculture. |
| 5. | Select methods to improve soil fertility. |
