The objective of this course is to provide students with the fundamental biological, genetic, and environmental principles of animal breeding and husbandry at a theoretical level. The course covers the domestication process, farm animal species and breeds, record-keeping systems, animal improvement, selection, breeding methods, reproduction, fertility management, and environmental adaptation mechanisms, aiming to teach the core principles of rational and sustainable animal production.
Introduction to animal breeding, current status of livestock production in the world and Turkey. History of domestication, animal species, the concept of breed, and classification of breeds. Theoretical principles of types of livestock enterprises and record-keeping systems used in breeding farms. Animal breeding, selection, and mating methods. Reproductive physiology, fertility parameters, and factors affecting fertility in farm animals. The concept of environment in livestock production, climatic factors, and adaptation mechanisms of farm animals to the environment.
