The aim of this course is to examine the cross-border movement of insects through both natural processes (migration, wind-assisted dispersal, and active movement) and human activities (trade, agricultural products, collection materials, and biological material transport). The course aims to evaluate global dispersal mechanisms, invasive species formation, ecological adaptation processes, and the impacts of insect mobility on ecosystems, agriculture, and biosecurity, enabling students to understand the dynamic and borderless nature of insects.
This course addresses both natural and anthropogenic pathways of insect dispersal. It examines migratory insect species, wind-assisted passive transport, active movement, and habitat shifts. In addition, the role of human activities such as trade, agricultural products, seeds, live biological material transport, and scientific collections in the global dispersal of insects is evaluated. The emergence of invasive species, ecosystem impacts, quarantine measures, biosecurity strategies, and entomological risk assessments are discussed in relation to the ecological and economic consequences of insect mobility.
