Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to introduce students to the chemical composition of the animal body and feeds, organic and inorganic nutrients, and their digestion and absorption mechanisms in livestock. The course aims to teach the classification of roughages, concentrates, root/tuber crops, and feed additives, the fundamentals of ration formulation, and the utilization principles of nutrients in the animal organism in integration with organic agriculture disciplines.

Course Content

Basic components of the animal body and feeds; structures and functions of organic and inorganic nutrients; processes of digestion, absorption, and metabolism in livestock. Definition and classification of feed materials; roughages, root and tuber crops, concentrated feeds, and feed additives. Biological efficiency of digested nutrients in the organism and determination of nutrient requirements of livestock.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.Explain the chemical composition of the animal body and feed materials, alongside the functions of organic and inorganic nutrients.
2.Define the processes of digestion, absorption, and metabolic pathways of nutrients in livestock.
3.Classify feed ingredients into roughages, concentrates, root/tuber crops, and feed additives, distinguishing their nutritional values.
4.Comprehend the transformation mechanisms of energy and proteins from digested nutrients within the animal organism.
5.Analyze the nutrient requirements of livestock during different physiological periods and apply sustainable feeding principles.
