To inform students about the risks associated with medicinal and aromatic plants and how to avoid them.
Comprehensive information is provided on biotic and abiotic risks that may be encountered at every stage of medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation and production. Solutions that can be applied when these situations are encountered are explained.
| 1. | Identifies risk factors in the medicinal and aromatic plant supply chain and analyze the cascading effects of these risks on human health and the environment. |
| 2. | Explains toxic chemicals, allergens, and plant-pesticide interactions in herbal products; and assess the harms of incorrect plant selection and improper use. |
| 3. | Distinguishes bacterial and parasitic agents and microbial toxins that may contaminate herbal raw materials; and interpret the risks these pathogens pose to public health. |
| 4. | Explains the effects of heavy metals, pesticide residues, and environmental pollution on the quality of medicinal plants; and discuss the negative impacts of weed infestation on ecosystems and product purity. |
| 5. | Develops safe production protocols by preventing contamination and pollution in herbal production and processing processes. |
