The aim of this course is to provide students with a fundamental understanding of plant breeding and genetics; to teach classical breeding methods such as selection, hybridization, polycross, and synthetic variety development; and to enable them to evaluate these methods specifically in medicinal and aromatic plants. The course also aims to raise awareness of genetic diversity, breeding strategies, and modern approaches, helping students understand current developments in the field and build a foundation for professional practice.
Basic concepts of plant breeding and genetics, and the importance of inheritance and genetic diversity in plant improvement. Selection, pure line and clonal breeding, hybridization and hybrid formation, polycross and synthetic variety development methods. Introduction to genetic resources and germplasm utilization. Comparison and integration of basic plant breeding methods. Introduction to modern plant breeding approaches. Basic objectives, methods, and application examples of breeding in medicinal and aromatic plants.
