Objectives of the Course

The course aims to enable students to acquire knowledge of the basic concepts, historical development, bonsai culture, suitable plant species, growing media, and fundamental maintenance practices related to the art of miniature tree cultivation. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to recognize irrigation, fertilization, pruning, wiring, root pruning, repotting, and basic design forms, and to evaluate miniature tree cultivation within the framework of hobby-based practice, aesthetic awareness, plant care, and sustainable living.

Course Content

The course covers the definition, scope, historical development, and basic approaches in bonsai culture within the art of miniature tree cultivation. Plant structure, basic growth principles, suitable plant species for miniature tree cultivation, pot selection, growing media, drainage, irrigation, fertilization, and seasonal maintenance practices are examined. In addition, pruning, wiring, shaping, root pruning, repotting, and basic design forms such as upright, slanting, cascade, semi-cascade, broom, forest, and group planting styles are evaluated. Basic maintenance problems, diseases, and pests encountered in miniature trees are addressed at an introductory level.
