Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to recognize the tools necessary for the laboratory, to have knowledge about the most common and used glass, metal, paper, plastic materials and equipment, to learn the proper cleaning of the tools and equipment used in the laboratory, and to train them in the techniques used in laboratory studies.

Glass materials used in laboratory, Laboratory instruments and equipment, Laboratory techniques and equipment, Laboratory cleaning and its importance, Laboratory cleaning, cleaning of glass materials, Cleaning solutions, Cleaning of other materials, Introducing the complex devices used in chemical analysis, The techniques used during the operation of the devices and methods, the establishment of basic laboratory procedures and mechanisms, the execution and termination of reactions and purification techniques, separation techniques and introduction to chromatography

Week 1 - Theoretical
Glass materials used in laboratory, structure and properties
Week 2 - Theoretical
Laboratory equipment and materials Structure and properties of porcelain, metal, plastic materials.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Glass, porcelain, metal, plastic materials used in the laboratory.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Cleaning of laboratory equipment. Washing solutions and preparation.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Measurement devices used in the laboratory (presentation, use techniques and purposes, protection) Drying cabinet, muffle furnace, Incubators sterile cabinet, autoclave
Week 6 - Practice
Water, oil, sand bath, centrifuge, magnetic stirrer, shaker, mill, sieve presentation, water distillation device, scales using techniques and objectives, protection, density determination, alcohol degree determination
Week 7 - Practice
pH meter, microscope, refractometer, polarimeter, colorimeter, photometer, using techniques and purposes, pH Determination, Refractive Index Determination
Week 8 - Theoretical
Planning an experiment, setting up and carrying out the equipment, considerations during product purification and laboratory book keeping (Mid-term exam)

Establishment of basic laboratory procedures and devices
Week 10 - Theoretical
Execution and termination of reactions and purification techniques

Separation techniques and Introduction to Chromatography
