Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the general characteristics of microorganisms, their impact on human health, and the fundamental mechanisms of infectious diseases. Students will be introduced to microorganism groups such as bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, and algae, and will gain knowledge about pathogenicity, immunity, and the principles of protection. Furthermore, the course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of infection prevention, diagnosis, and immunization methods.

Course Content

Introduction to basic microbiology; definition and classification of microorganisms; morphological and biological properties of bacteria; structure of fungi and the diseases they cause; introduction to parasitology, general properties of protozoa, helminths and algae; structure of viruses, replication mechanism and pathogenesis of viral diseases; basic immunology, humoral and cellular immunity; principles of vaccination and immunization.
