Objectives of the Course

It is aimed that the student has knowledge about the social aspects of the elderly. Besides, it is also aimed to inform the students by addressing the social problems of the elderly with different dimensions

Course Content

In this course, the concepts of aging and old age, the situation of the elderly in Turkey and the world, quality of life in old age, aging and family, loneliness and social isolation, working life and old age, retirement, ageism and elderly neglect are discussed.

Learning Outcomes
1.It explains the concepts of aging and old age within their historical and socio-cultural contexts.
2.It analyzes the aging process in a multifaceted way, considering its dimensions of social life, working life, and quality of life.
3.This study evaluates the phenomenon of aging within the framework of gerontology theories and fundamental approaches to aging.
4.It discusses issues such as loneliness, social isolation, neglect, abuse, and discrimination that arise in old age, within a cause-and-effect framework.
5.This study evaluates the phenomenon of aging in Turkey within the context of societal perception, demographic structure, and social policy, and develops solutions.
6.It assesses the holistic care and support needs of older individuals by explaining the relationship between the physiological, psychological, and social dimensions of the aging process.
