Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the safe, effective, and informed use of medications; to help them grasp the individual, societal, and professional importance of rational drug use; and to raise awareness of the roles of healthcare professionals in this process.

Course Content

This course covers the topics of rational drug use, responsible parties in rational drug use, rational use of antibiotics, drug safety, polypharmacy and rational use of drugs in special situations.

Learning Outcomes

1.	Explains the basic principles related to the safe and effective use of medications.
2.	Describes the importance of rational drug use in terms of individual and public health, healthcare costs, and treatment success.
3.	Identifies the roles of healthcare professionals in rational drug use by giving examples from at least two different professions.
4.	Describes the basic characteristics of rational drug use in children, pregnant women, and the elderly, including at least one key consideration for each group.
5.	Lists at least three causes and three possible consequences of irrational drug use.
