Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide students who are encountering the concepts of the stock market and investing for the first time with a fundamental understanding of financial markets, the functioning of Borsa Istanbul, investment instruments, and the basic principles of investment analysis. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to interpret stock market screens, analyze disclosures published through the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), monitor market indices, apply introductory fundamental and technical analysis techniques, and evaluate the risk–return relationship in investment decision-making.

Course Content

This course covers the concepts of investment and the relationship between saving and investment, financial markets, the structure and operation of Borsa Istanbul, stock market segments, investment instruments, order types, market indices, initial public offerings (IPOs), Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) announcements, dividends and capital increase transactions, fundamental analysis, technical analysis, risk management, and investor behavior. Throughout the course, theoretical knowledge is reinforced through practical activities, including stock market screen analysis, interpretation of KAP disclosures, sample stock analyses, index monitoring, and basic investment evaluation exercises.

1.Explain the concepts of the stock market, investment, risk, and return.
2.Describe the basic functioning of Borsa Istanbul and identify the main participants in the capital market.
3.Distinguish, at a fundamental level, among stocks, bonds, investment funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), warrants, and other investment instruments.
4.Evaluate Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) announcements, initial public offerings (IPOs), dividend distributions, and capital increase transactions from an investor's perspective.
5.Interpret stock market data, including prices, trading volume, market indices, and trading session information displayed on stock market screens
