Objectives of the Course

Providing general, statistical, and technical information about traffic accidents; understanding engineering/planning measures to improve traffic safety.

Course Content

Accident Statistics, Accident Types, Collision Diagrams, Accident Black Spots, Before-and-After Analysis of Accidents, Critical Encounters in Traffic, Calculation of Accident Costs, Engineering/Planning Measures to Improve Traffic Safety.

1.Able to identify vehicle damage and perform necessary inspections and operations on vehicle components.
2.Able to carry out notification procedures for property-damage, injury, and fatal traffic accidents and prepare accident reports.
3.Able to interpret accident reports and accurately complete their contents.
4.Able to determine and explain fault ratios and assess drivers’ alcohol conditions.
5.Able to draw accident scene and site sketches.
6.Able to determine accident causes, prepare accident investigation reports, and inspect legal documents related to vehicles and drivers.
7.Able to perform accident causation and preventability analyses using sample accident cases; calculate braking distance and initial speed; explain the importance of accident analysis in vehicle design and crash testing; and develop accident models.
8.Able to identify bent, deformed, broken, or replacement-required vehicle components.
9.Able to analyze the costs of replacement parts, labor charges, painting, transportation, and outsourced services.
10.Able to explain the characteristics of traffic and comprehensive motor insurance policies and perform insurance claim and vehicle appraisal (expertise) procedures for damaged vehicles.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
What is damage analysis, how to identify it, and what types of procedures are performed on the parts?
Week 2 - Theoretical
Reporting accidents resulting in damage, injury, or death, and preparing accident reports.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Damage analysis methods and equipment used.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Reviewing the accident report, filling out its contents, determining and explaining the fault percentages, and determining the alcohol level.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Drawing a sketch of the accident scene and surroundings, determining the cause of the accident, and preparing an accident report when necessary.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Checking documents related to vehicles and drivers that entail legal obligations. Conducting accident occurrence and avoidability analyses for sample accident incidents.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Braking distance, initial speed calculations. The role of crash analysis in vehicle design, crash tests, crash models.
Week 8 - Intermediate Exam

Identifying bent, twisted, broken parts that need replacing.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Analysis of the cost of parts to be replaced, labor costs, paint, transportation, and the cost of work outsourced to the premises.
