Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to gain basic knowledge of employment relations, employment contracts, and social security obligations.

Course Content

The course covers labor law, employee, employer, employment contracts, working hours, wages, overtime, leave, termination of employment contracts, severance and notice pay, insurance status, premiums, occupational accidents, and occupational health and safety.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical
Introduction to Labor and Social Security Law: The concepts of labor law, social security law, employee, employer, workplace, and employment relationship are explained.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Basic Principles of Labor Law: The principle of protecting employees, equal treatment obligation, good faith, labor peace, and legal security in working life are discussed.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Employment Contract and Its Types: Fixed-term, indefinite-term, full-time, part-time, on-call, and probationary employment contracts are introduced.
Week 4 - Theoretical
Rights and Obligations of Employees and Employers: The employee’s duty to work, loyalty, and care; and the employer’s duty to pay wages, protect employees, and treat them equally are explained.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Working Hours, Overtime, and Rest Rights: Weekly working hours, overtime, breaks, weekly rest days, national holidays, and general holiday rights are discussed.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Wages, Bonuses, and Fringe Benefits: The concept of wages, minimum wage, bonuses, overtime pay, meal and transportation benefits, and commission relations in real estate offices are examined.
Week 7 - Practice
Employment Contract Case Evaluation: Students are asked to evaluate employment contract, wage, and working time issues through a sample real estate office employee case.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Termination of Employment Contract: Termination, resignation, termination for just cause, termination for valid reason, notice periods, and job security are explained.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Severance and Notice Pay: Severance pay, notice pay, annual leave payment, the process of leaving employment, and employee receivables are discussed at a basic level.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Introduction to the Social Security System: The concept of social security, insurance status, premiums, the distinction between 4A, 4B, and 4C, and the importance of social security for employees are explained.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Insured Employment Entry, Premiums, and Notification Obligations: The employer’s obligations regarding insured employment entry notification, premium payment, monthly declarations, and record keeping are discussed.
Week 12 - Theoretical
Occupational Accidents, Occupational Diseases, and Occupational Health and Safety: Occupational accidents, occupational diseases, risk assessment, the employer’s duty to take precautions, and employees’ obligations are explained.
Week 13 - Theoretical
Employment Relations and Professional Risks in Real Estate Businesses: Real estate agents, office staff, fieldwork, commission systems, flexible working, and the risks of unregistered employment are examined.
Week 14 - Theoretical
General Review and Practical Labor Law Scenario: The semester topics are reviewed; students are asked to evaluate recruitment, insurance, wage, and termination processes for a sample real estate office.
