To enable associate degree students of Child Development to comprehend the basic concepts, contemporary theoretical approaches, legal legislation, and institutional operations in the field of special education. Within the scope of this course, it is aimed for students to theoretically recognize the developmental characteristics of typical, atypical, and at-risk children; to distinguish the educational and developmental needs of 11 different disability and special talent groups; and to acquire the theoretical adaptation strategies and professional ethical values required in inclusive education environments.
Basic principles, historical development, and legal foundations of special education; theoretical foundations of educational identification, assessment, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) development processes in special education; philosophy of inclusive education; developmental characteristics and theoretical educational approaches for children with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning difficulties, speech and language disorders, hearing impairments, emotional and behavioral disorders, physical disabilities, chronic illnesses, visual impairments, multiple disabilities, and special talents; administrative structure, legislation, and family involvement models of preschool special education institutions. The theoretical achievements acquired by students within the scope of the course are evaluated through a midterm exam and a final exam.

| 5. | Possesses knowledge about social, scientific, professional, and ethical values, as well as occupational health and safety processes, to be observed during data collection, reporting, and working with families in special education. |
