Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to develop students' skills in presenting themselves, their projects, and their technical reports in an effective, persuasive, and clear manner in both professional and academic settings. Within the scope of this course, students will theoretically learn presentation outlining, visual slide design, diction, voice modulation, body language utilization, and methods for managing presentation anxiety. Through in-class practices and simulations, they will gain practical experience in delivering professional presentations before an audience and on digital platforms.

Course Content

Presentation tools, methods, and techniques; visual and color principles in presentation outlining and slide design; practices in diction, effective speaking, voice, modulation, body language, gestures, and facial expressions; presentation anxiety, stage rehearsal, and speaker psychology; virtual meeting technologies and online presentation techniques; in-class individual presentation practices and performance evaluation criteria.

Learning Outcomes
1.Develop presentation outlines tailored to the target audience and topic, and select appropriate presentation tools that align with the intended objective.
2.Design professional presentation slides that comply with the principles of visual design, color harmony, and readability.
3.Utilize diction, voice modulation, body language, gestures, and facial expressions in an effective and professional manner while speaking in public.
4.Manage presentation anxiety to successfully perform presentation simulations in both face-to-face (on-stage) and virtual/online environments.
5.Critique presentations analytically based on designated performance and evaluation criteria, provide constructive feedback, and manage technical report presentations in accordance with these criteria.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Presentation tools and methods, and basic presentation examples. Application: In-class ice-breaking and impromptu 1-minute "self-introduction" speaking practices.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Presentation techniques and outline preparation. Application: Brainstorming and outlining session based on an introduction-body-conclusion logic for a designated technical topic (e.g., What is Quality Control?).
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Diction and effective speaking, and voice and modulation exercises. Application: Individual and collective in-class vocal exercises focused on correct breathing, tongue twisters, emphasis, and intonation.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Body language utilization, and practices in gestures and facial expressions. Application: "Silent performance" and stage presence practices focusing on podium stance, maintaining eye contact, and proper hand gestures.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Visual design and color usage, and slide design principles. Application: Examination of poorly designed slide examples (text-heavy, color-mismatched) and collaborative correction in class.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Presentation preparation techniques and mini-presentation development. Application: In-class delivery of 2-minute "elevator pitch" style mini-presentations prepared by students.
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Presentation anxiety and coping mechanisms, and stage rehearsal techniques. Application: Physical and mental exercises to reduce anxiety and stress, and rehearsals for taking the stage and managing the first 30 seconds.
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Midterm Exam / Virtual meetings, technology, and online presentation applications. Application: Midterm exam application featuring screen sharing, camera/microphone management, and online presentation simulations via platforms such as MS Teams/Zoom.
Week 9 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Speaker psychology and presentation simulations. Application: Class role-playing of crisis management scenarios during moments of difficult audiences, technical glitches, or forgetting lines.
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Presentation preparation techniques and individual presentation development. Application: Individual mentorship/consulting hour focused on content, slide design, and flow control for topics (technical or general) selected for the final presentation.
Week 11 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Presentation delivery techniques and in-class presentations. Application: Delivery of individual presentations by the first group of students at the podium (along with peer feedback).
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Presentation delivery techniques and in-class presentations. Application: Delivery of individual presentations by the second group of students at the podium.
Week 13 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: Presentation delivery techniques and performance evaluation. Application: Completion of presentations by the final group of students, and strengths/weaknesses analysis using video and audio recordings of the presentations delivered so far.
Week 14 - Theoretical & Practice
Theory: General review, presentation evaluation criteria, and final presentations. Application: Reviewing presentation evaluation rubrics, completing any remaining performances, and closing evaluation.
