Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to enable students to comprehensively analyze the language, social, emotional, temperament, self, moral, and sexual development processes during early childhood, alongside the theoretical foundations and environmental factors influencing these developmental domains, and to acquire academic skills for monitoring and evaluating children's developmental characteristics.

Course Content

This course covers the components, theories, and stages of language development; attachment processes, temperament, self-concept, and personality development; the impact of family, peers, and media during the socialization process; theories of moral development; and sexual development, sex education, and the integrated evaluation of children's developmental processes through case analyses.

Week 1 - Theoretical
Introduction to Language Development: Core components, theories, and stages of language development.
Week 2 - Theoretical
Strategies supporting language development in early childhood and overview of language disorders.
Week 3 - Theoretical
Emotional development, attachment processes, meaning and importance of attachment, and attachment theories (Bowlby, Ainsworth).
Week 4 - Theoretical
Self-Concept and Development: Self-esteem, self-awareness, and Mahler's Separation-Individuation Theory.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Temperament, Character, and Personality Development: Temperament models (Thomas & Chess, Rothbart) and foundations of personality development.
Week 6 - Theoretical
Socialization Process: Family, environment, parenting styles, and their effects on the socialization of the child.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Environmental Factors in Social Development: Social stages of play (Parten), media, digital technologies, and the effects of screen time.
Week 8 - Theoretical
Development of emotion regulation and self-regulation skills.
Week 9 - Theoretical
Innovative Approaches to Social-Emotional Development: Neurodevelopmental findings, executive functions, and positive psychology.
Week 10 - Theoretical
Moral Development: Core concepts, psychoanalytic and behaviorist approaches to moral development.
Week 11 - Theoretical
Theories of Moral Development: Cognitive moral theories (Piaget's and Kohlberg's stages of moral development).
Week 12 - Theoretical
Sexual Development and Education: Processes of sexual development, acquisition of gender roles/identity, and principles of sexual education for children.
Week 13 - Theoretical
Developmental approach to childhood behavioral and adjustment problems, and positive behavior support strategies in early childhood.
Week 14 - Theoretical
Comprehensive evaluation of language, social, and moral developmental processes in early childhood and case analyses.
