Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to gain a perspective aligned with developments in commerce and technology, and also to introduce the concepts of E-Commerce and E-Marketing along with their current applications.

Course Content

Introduction and Basic Concepts; the history and importance of E-Commerce; the methods and types of E-Commerce; security and payment systems in E-Commerce; the effects of E-Commerce, its advantages and disadvantages; the importance of E-Commerce for countries; E-Commerce, S-Commerce and marketing strategies (4P); E-Commerce application.

Course introduction and introduction to e-commerce / Application: Examples from e-commerce companies.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
E-commerce basic concepts / Application: Examining and explaining the difference between traditional commerce and e-commerce with examples.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
The history and importance of E-Commerce / Application: Conducting a discussion and case analysis on the importance of E-Commerce today.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
E-commerce types, their modes of occurrence, and the sectors in which they are commonly used / Application: Exemplification of e-commerce types and discussion about the sectors in which they are heavily used.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
E-commerce security and payment systems / Application: Discussion and examination of traditional and card payments as well as next-generation and alternative payments.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
The effects of e-commerce / Application: Discussion and case analysis of the changes brought about by e-commerce.
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
E-commerce’s social advantages: Benefits for businesses and consumers / Application: Discussion and case analysis of the benefits of e-commerce for both sellers and buyers.
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
The technical and non-technical disadvantages of E-Commerce / Application: A discussion of the non-technical disadvantages of E-Commerce from the perspective of buyers and sellers and a case analysis. (Midterm exam)

Current State of E-Commerce in the World and in Turkey / Application: Discussion and examination of the importance of e-commerce in terms of sales volume and market share across countries.
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
Factors affecting E-Commerce / Application: discussion and examination of the effects of demographic factors, technical infrastructure, and social media on E-Commerce.
Week 11 - Theoretical & Practice
E-commerce and marketing: types of marketing on the internet / Application: examination and analysis of e-marketing types.
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
E-commerce and marketing: The 4Ps in marketing and S-Marketing / Application: Discussion of the importance of marketing strategies and S-Commerce today and case analysis.
