Objectives of the Course

In this course, students gain competence in basic electrical knowledge and application.

Course Content

To introduce the electrical and electronic elements, concepts, and theories, which are indispensable elements of today's devices, to Polymer Technology students. To give information about the working principles, selection, and control methods of electromechanical actuators such as Electromagnet, AC-DC Motor, Stepper Motor. To introduce measurement methods and elements.

3.To be able to apply simple electrical circuit analysis.
4.To be able to comprehend direct and alternating current circuits and apply equalization (power factor) methods in AC circuits.
5.To be able to select the measuring system and instrument in research
6.To be able to comprehend the working principles of electromechanical devices and to use such equipment.

Week 1 - Theoretical
Introduction of the course, purpose and the relationship between course outcomes and program outcomes
Week 2 - Theoretical
Basic electrical quantities, flux and potential difference, basic electrical elements and resistor, representation of resistors
Week 3 - Theoretical
Circuit solution methods and a sample application. Capacitors, simple capacitance circuits, capacitor types, magnetic field and concepts
Week 4 - Theoretical
Alternative quantities, RLC circuits. Phasor diagram. Compensation circuits and calculation
Week 5 - Theoretical
Transistors working principles and simple uses
Week 6 - Theoretical
Review and presentation
Week 7 - Theoretical
Physical principles of electrical actuators, working principle of solenoids, working principles of DC-AC, step and brushless DC motors
Week 8 - Theoretical
Physical principles of electrical actuators, working principle of solenoids, working principles of DC-AC, step and brushless DC motors (Midterm Exam Evaluation)
Week 9 - Theoretical
Characteristics of electric motor, control methods, selection criteria of electric motor and motor selection according to application

Stepper motors working principles, control methods and usage areas

Measuring Systems, Sensors and Electrical Transducer Elements, Resistive, Capacitive and Inductive Transducers and Application Examples
