Objectives of the Course

To enable students to understand the fundamental theoretical and technical principles of image and sound production; use cameras, lighting, framing, audio-recording, and production tools at a basic level; and plan and produce ethical, safe, technically sound, and aesthetically appropriate audiovisual content for new media environments.

Course Content

Fundamental concepts of image and sound production; camera systems, lenses, exposure, focus, shot sizes, camera angles and movements; composition, lighting and color; fundamentals of sound; microphone types and recording techniques; script, storyboard and shot planning; production organization; synchronous image-sound recording; file management; formats suitable for new media platforms; copyright, privacy, accessibility, ethics, and occupational health and safety; applied audiovisual content production.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the basic concepts, equipment, and production stages related to image and sound production.
2.Selects camera settings, lenses, shot sizes, angles, and movements in accordance with the production purpose.
3.Records technically and aesthetically appropriate images by applying the principles of composition, lighting, color, and visual continuity.
4.Uses microphone types and basic sound-recording techniques in accordance with production conditions.
5.Prepares a short script, storyboard, shot list, and technical plan for audiovisual content.
6.Records image and sound synchronously in accordance with technical quality criteria; organizes and backs up production files.
7.Produces short audiovisual content that meets the technical requirements of new media platforms.
8.Evaluates image and sound production in terms of ethics, copyright, privacy, accessibility, and occupational health and safety principles; assumes responsibility in teamwork.

Weekly Detailed Course Contents
Week 1 - Theoretical & Practice
Introduction to the course; audiovisual production workflow, basic equipment, and studio/field safety - Identification of camera, sound, and lighting equipment.
Week 2 - Theoretical & Practice
Image formation; camera system, sensor, resolution, and recording formats - Practice with basic camera menus and recording settings.
Week 3 - Theoretical & Practice
Lenses, focal length, angle of view, focus, and depth of field - Shooting practice with different lenses and focus settings.
Week 4 - Theoretical & Practice
Exposure triangle: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO; white balance - Practice in correct exposure and color temperature.
Week 5 - Theoretical & Practice
Composition, framing, shot sizes, and camera angles - Recording shots appropriate to the intended visual narrative.
Week 6 - Theoretical & Practice
Camera movements, stabilization equipment, and moving shots - Pan, tilt, and tracking-shot practices.
Week 7 - Theoretical & Practice
Quality, direction, intensity, and color temperature of light - Practice with basic light sources and light measurement.
Week 8 - Theoretical & Practice
Three-point lighting, natural light, and available light - Setting up lighting for an interview/portrait.
Week 9 - Theoretical & Practice
Fundamentals of sound; frequency, amplitude, signal-to-noise ratio, and recording levels - Monitoring and adjusting audio levels.
Week 10 - Theoretical & Practice
Microphone types, polar patterns, connections, and microphone placement - Selecting and using microphones appropriate to production conditions.
Week 11 - Theoretical & Practice
Indoor and outdoor sound recording; dialogue, ambience, and room tone - Interview and ambient sound recording practice.
Week 12 - Theoretical & Practice
Pre-production planning: idea, short script, storyboard, shot list, and technical requirements - Preparation of a short production file.
Week 13 - Theoretical & Practice
Production organization; directing, crew roles, continuity, slate, and set communication - Shooting a short scene and distributing responsibilities.
Week 14 - Theoretical & Practice
Synchronous image and sound recording; synchronization, file naming, data transfer, and backup - Integrated recording practice.
Week 15 - Theoretical & Practice
Aspect ratio, resolution, and accessibility for new media platforms; copyright, privacy, and ethics - Adapting content for different platforms.
Week 16 - Theoretical & Practice
Production and presentation of the term project - Screening, evaluation, and feedback on short audiovisual works.
