The aim of this course is to examine the representation of migrant, refugee, diaspora, and displaced communities within media, public spaces, digital platforms, and social discourses, by addressing the phenomenon of migration from a communication studies perspective. The course aims to enable students to critically evaluate the role of communication in migration processes, media representations, intercultural interaction, public opinion formation, digital activism, and ethical issues.
This course covers the concept of migration, migration theories, the relationship between communication and migration, intercultural communication, representations of migrants and refugees, diaspora communication, migration discourses in news media, digital media and migrant visibility, hate speech on social media, migration policies, public opinion formation, crisis communication, ethical issues, and the analysis of migration-themed media content.
