Objectives of the Course

Basic concepts related to the teaching of science and technology, social dimensions of science and technology, the importance of scientific literacy, aims of teaching science and technology and approaches in teaching science and technology.

Science and technology program, constructivist learning theory, conceptual change model, metacognition, misconceptions, refutational text, science experiments/practical work, predict-observe-explain strategy, learning cycle

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to aware of that all students can be successful taking into account their individual differences.
2.To be able to design a lesson plan by selecting appropriate teaching method for a given science attainment, therefore to be able to improve personal science teaching self-efficacy
3.To be able to follow the changes in science education through literature, to develop a critical perspective for the literature.
4.To be able to make individual, peer or group assessment, to improve self-assessment skill.
5.To be able to obtain cooperation with other in group work

Cognitive, socio-cultural and radical constructivism, the characteristics of constructivist learning environment.
Week 4 - Theoretical
The definition of the scientific concept, concept development process, classification of the concepts, conceptual change model.
Week 5 - Theoretical
The meaning of the misconceptions in science education, the reasons for why misconceptions occur
Week 6 - Theoretical
The structure ofthe conceptual change texts, desinging a conceptual change text to refute any given misconception.
Week 7 - Theoretical
Designing a lesson plan to refute the misconceptions through predict-observe-explain strategy
Week 8 - Theoretical
The purposes of the science laboratory, science process skills in a given worksheet, the level of inquiry in an experiment.(Mid-term Exam)
