Objectives of the Course

Fundamental concepts related to the teaching of science, social dimensions of science, the importance of scientific literacy, aims of teaching science and approaches in teaching science.It aims to impart the fundamental knowledge and skills related to teaching the topics of the science course.

Course Content

Science and technology program, constructivist learning theory, conceptual change model, metacognition, misconceptions, refutational text, science experiments/practical work, predict-observe-explain strategy, learning cycle, argumnetation, communicative interactional discourse, and classroom discussion.

Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the characteristics of scientific knowledge and the scientific method.
2.Knows the characteristics and learning domains of the primary school science curriculum, and recognizes the changes in science curricula across different years.
3.States the aims of science education and explains current approaches to science teaching.
4.Be familiar with scientific process skills and design activities aimed at developing these skills.
5.To be able to design a lesson plan by selecting appropriate teaching method for a given science attainment, therefore to be able to improve personal science teaching self-efficacy
6.To be able to aware of that all students can be successful taking into account their individual differences.
7.To be able to follow the changes in science education through literature, to develop a critical perspective for the literature.

Week 4 - Theoretical
The meaning of the misconceptions in science education, the reasons for why misconceptions occur,The structure ofthe conceptual change texts, desinging a conceptual change text to refute any given misconception.
Week 5 - Theoretical
Designing a lesson plan to refute the misconceptions through predict-observe-explain strategy
Week 6 - Theoretical
The purposes of the science laboratory, science process skills in a given worksheet, the level of inquiry in an experiment.

The learning cycle.
