Objectives of the Course

This course aims to enable preschool teacher candidates to comprehensively evaluate children's school readiness levels; to plan and implement activities that support children's transition to primary school by considering individual differences; and to understand the development of early literacy skills in order to design and assess early literacy activities accordingly.

Course Content

Definition and importance of school readiness; developmental, environmental, and cultural factors affecting school readiness. Cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and linguistic dimensions of preparation for primary school. The importance of pre-reading and pre-writing activities in early childhood education; key concepts and theoretical approaches related to early literacy. Factors influencing the development of reading and writing skills and their developmental processes. Components of early literacy, including reading skills and sub-skills: alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, oral language skills, and vocabulary development. Planning, implementing, and evaluating early literacy activities in accordance with the preschool education curriculum.
