Objectives of the Course

TThis course examines physical, cognitive, perceptual, language, and socio-emotional development from the prenatal period to the end of childhood (prior to adolescence). Emphasis is placed on both theoretical perspectives and practical applications, with the goal of developing students’ ability to analyze child development through scientific methods and evidence-based approaches.

Course Content

Basic concepts and principles of development, theories of development, developmental periods, physical, cognitive, personality and moral development in childhood.

Learning Outcomes
1.ExplainsExplains the fundamental concepts, historical approaches, and lifespan perspective in developmental psychology. child psychology.
2.Evaluates the stages of prenatal development, the interaction between heredity and environment, and risk factors associated with the birth process, including teratogenic influences.
3.Describes the physical, motor, and perceptual development of infants and children, with reference to their biological foundations.
4.nalyzes cognitive development during childhood within the frameworks of Piaget’s Theory, Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory, and Information Processing Theory.
5.Discusses personality, self-concept, and socio-emotional development in light of Freud’s Psychosexual Theory, Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory, and Attachment Theories (Bowlby and Ainsworth).
