Objectives of the Course

This course examines human development across the lifespan from a biopsychosocial perspective. It focuses on identifying patterns of adjustment and maladjustment that may emerge during different developmental periods, evaluating the risk and protective factors associated with these adjustment processes from the perspective of psychological counseling and guidance, and developing preventive and intervention strategies within counseling services. Students will critically examine developmental challenges across the lifespan and evidence-based approaches that promote psychological adjustment and well-being.

Course Content

This course examines human development across the lifespan from a biopsychosocial perspective, with particular emphasis on patterns of adjustment and maladjustment across different developmental stages. The course covers the concepts of mental health, adjustment, maladjustment, and normality; major theories of human development; and the developmental characteristics and adjustment problems associated with infancy, childhood, adolescence, emerging adulthood, adulthood, and late adulthood. Students will explore the risk and protective factors that influence adjustment, as well as the roles of family, school, and the broader social context in promoting healthy development. The course also introduces evidence-based preventive and intervention approaches within the framework of psychological counseling and guidance. Finally, issues related to death, dying, and the grieving process are examined from a developmental perspective.
