Objectives of the Course

This course aims to analyze the historical development of the Balkans, the political and social structures of the regional states, and contemporary issues within a historical perspective. The course will examine the formation processes of Balkan states, the shaping of national identities, and regional dynamics, while also evaluating current political, economic, and social problems in the Balkans and future expectations. It seeks to enhance understanding of the Balkans' position and influence in international relations.

Course Content

This course covers the historical development of the Balkans and the major political, social, and cultural processes that have shaped the region. The historical formation, national identity processes, and current conditions of countries such as Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo will be examined. In addition, the course will evaluate political, economic, and social problems in the Balkans and discuss future expectations. It provides a historical and analytical perspective to understand the Balkans' role in international relations.
