Objectives of the Course

This course aims to analyze the significance of the Middle East region in world politics.

Course Content

Historical and contemporary developments in the Middle East, transformation of the region since the Ottoman era, the socio-economic and socio-political structures of the Middle east states, the problems in the region, the interests and policies of the EU, USA, Russia, and China in the region, Arab nationalism, political Islam, Arab-Israeli conflict, Iraq-Iran relations, the Gulf war and the Iraq war, and the energy reserves of the region.

1.To be able to recognize the Middle East region in all its aspects and to get knowledge about the problems in the region.
2.To be able to analyze Turkey’s relations with the Middle Eastern states and its policies toward the region
3.To be able to examine the Middle East’s place in world politics
4.To be able to comprehend the main dynamics of Middle East politics and policies of great powers toward the region
5.To be able to analyze inter-relations of the region countries.
