Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to evaluate the politic, economic and sociologic developments in the Balkan region in a historical context.

Course Content

At this course firstly the students will be informed about the Balkan region geographically. Later, the settling down of the Balkanic groups to the region and their nation and state building processes will be touched down.

1.Students can compare and evaluate the different parts of Balkan region
2.Students can evaluate the Balkan politics within different international systems.
3.Students can analyze the relations of Balkan countries with several international actors.
4. To be able to comprehend the region’s significance for European, Ottoman, and USSR’s history.
5. To be able to analyse the democratization and integration efforts of the new nation-states, which emerged in the region after the collapse of Yugoslavia, with the Western institutions.
