Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the theoretical perspectives and issues of international political economy (IPE) and enable students to analyse conceptually and theoretically issues, developments and problems of international political economy.

Course Content

The nature, scope, historical and intellectual origins of International Political Economy; main theoretical approaches of IPE and recent developments and current trends in the world political economy.

1.To be able to identify the historical and intellectual origins of IPE and its current agenda
2.To be able to establish and analyse the relationship between politics and economy, state and market, states system and capitalist system, and public and private authority in the world economy
3.To be able to identify major current challenges such as sustainable development, food, hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and underdevelopment to comprehend their economic and political dimensions together
4.To be able to employ IPE theories for current issues and to develop a critical thinking in order to analyze problems in the field of IPE
5.To understand some of the core issues and debates within the field of international political economy.
