Objectives of the Course

This course provides an introduction to international political economy - the interface between international economics and international politics. This study is based on the assumption that in order to understand patterns of interaction and change at the global level, we need to look at both international politics and economics in an integrated manner.

Students will look at economic issues of trade, finance, production and development.

1.This course introduces students to the field of International Political Economy – the study of economic interactions between states, markets, and societies.
2.To understand some of the core issues and debates within the field of international political economy.
3.To be able to apply analyticial approaches to these core issues and to be able to develop a critical unerstanding of these approaches.
4.To be able to identify major current challenges such as sustainable development, food, hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and underdevelopment to comprehend their economic and political dimensions together
5.To be able to identify the historical and intellectual origins of IPE and its current agenda
