Objectives of the Course

to educate the students who comprehend of important roles of basic physiological events on yield and quantity in horticulture plant growing. and, who lead and control of their knowledges about these events to carried out to growing horticulture plants

Course Content

Cell, tissue, organ description. Water and mineral matter uptake and translocatiion. Transpiration, respiration, organik matter translocation. Growing and development physiology (phytochrome system, plant growth regulators, flowering, stress physiology).

Week 1 - Theoretical
An overview of plant structure, plant cells and organelles, conduction, structures and functions of basic and support tissues, structure and functions of root, stem and leaf.
Week 2 - Theoretical
The importance of water in plant life, uptake and transport of water, mineral substance deficiencies and their symptoms in plants, uptake and transport of mineral substances
Week 3 - Theoretical
Definition and regulation of transpiration, factors affecting transpiration in plants
Week 4 - Theoretical
Stages of photosynthesis, light reactions and regulation
Week 5 - Theoretical
Carbon reactions of photosynthesis, physiological and ecological importance of photosynthesis
Week 6 - Theoretical
Organic matter transport pathways, patterns and speed, source-to-sink and pressure flow mechanisms
Week 7 - Theoretical
Respiratory metabolism, glycolysis and citric acid cycle, lipid metabolism (Midterm Exam)
Week 8 - Theoretical
Embryogenesis, cell and organelle differentiation, senescence and cell death
Week 9 - Theoretical
Phytochrome system and its importance in plant development, phytochemical and biochemical properties of phytochrome, location in tissues and cells, reactions of plants to the phytochrome system
Week 10 - Theoretical
Definition and classification of plant growth regulators, transport and physiological effects of auxins, effects of gibberellins on growth and development and physiological mechanisms
Week 11 - Theoretical
Cytokinin transport and biological roles, effects of ethylene on plant development and physiology, transport of abscisic acid, effects on plant development
Week 12 - Theoretical
Control of flowering, development of flower organs, photoperiodism, vernelization
Week 13 - Theoretical
Germination physiology, seed water uptake, germination, dormancy, factors affecting germination
Week 14 - Theoretical
Stress physiology, water stress and drought resistance, heat stress, salinity stress, oxygen stress
