Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to acquire knowledge of the morphology, biology, ecological requirements, modes of infection, and dissemination of nematodes in general. Furthermore, the course aims to provide an understanding of the host plants of economically important plant-parasitic nematodes affecting cultivated crops in Türkiye, their feeding mechanisms and damage symptoms in crop plants, as well as the methods used for their management and control.

Course Content

History of nematology, general information about plant parasitic nematodes, working methods with nematodes and information about the biology , damage types and control methods of plant parasitic nematodes in important cultivated plants.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to define morphological and biological characteristics of nematodes.
2.To be able to describe biology and feeding mechanisms of the plant parasitic nematodes in cultivated plants.
3.To be able to identify macroscopically the damage of plant parasitic nematodes in cultivated plants.
4.To be able to apply control methods of important plant parasitic nematodes and suggest suitable nematicides.
5.To learn how to collect samples from cultivated plants and soil, and to perform nematode analysis
6.To be able to prepare presentations, reports, and projects on this subject.
