Objectives of the Course

In this course, it is aimed to enable students to define, delimit and plan an undergraduate thesis process on a research topic or professional problem related to the field of landscape architecture in accordance with the principles of scientific research. The course aims to enable students to conduct a literature review on the selected topic, determine the research question, aim, scope, material and method components, and carry out the research process under the guidance of the advisor academic staff member in line with preliminary evaluations. It also aims to improve students’ scientific writing, reporting, and oral/visual presentation skills.

Course Content

In this course, the definition of a research topic or problem related to the field of landscape architecture, determination of the research scope and limitations, literature review, evaluation of scientific sources, development of research material and method, planning of the data collection process, and implementation of the initial stages of the undergraduate thesis study are addressed. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to prepare a literature summary, problem definition, aim and scope, material-method draft, interim report, thesis draft and presentation outputs under the supervision of the advisor academic staff member. The assessment of the course is based on report and seminar/presentation studies related to the undergraduate thesis process. Mid-term assessment consists of an interim report including the topic, problem definition, literature summary, aim-scope and method draft (30%), and an interim seminar/presentation (10%), accounting for 40% of the total grade. The end-of-term assessment consists of an end-of-term report including the developed thesis draft, material-method and research process (40%), and an end-of-term seminar/presentation (20%), accounting for 60% of the total grade.
