Objectives of the Course

To convey natural vegetation and flora elements across different ecological zones in Turkey and around the world; to teach the importance of natural vegetation for ecosystems; and to explain the place and significance of natural vegetation in landscape architecture practice.

Course Content

Basic information on different climatic zones and vegetation types will be provided. Natural plant formations and species in Turkey and around the world will be introduced; their threatened/endangered status and the legal regulations on the protection of native species will be presented.

Learning Outcomes
1.To learn the fundamentals of plant systematics, binomial nomenclature and the use of qualifiers (epithets).
2.To learn the general characteristics of Türkiye's flora and landscapes.
3.To learn Turkey's plant geographical regions, important plant areas and vegetation destruction factors and human effects.
4.To recognize the plant material in the Mediterranean flora and to evaluate it on a planning scale.
5.To learn about natural plant materials, collection of plant samples and preparation of herbarium.
