In this course, it is aimed to enable students to understand the profession of landscape architecture in line with ethical principles, professional responsibility and the relevant legal and regulatory framework. The course aims to enable students to relate the concepts of morality, ethics, deontology and professional ethics to the professional practice of landscape architecture, and to make evaluations in the context of public interest, professional responsibility, professional organisations, disciplinary processes, and national and international ethical rules. It also aims to support students in developing the ability to recognise, interpret and make decisions in accordance with professional principles regarding ethical issues that may arise in landscape architecture practices.
In this course, the concepts of morality, ethics, deontology and professional ethics, their historical development and their relationship with the profession of landscape architecture are addressed. The duties, professional rights and responsibilities of landscape architects, ethical principles in public-private sector relations, the role of professional organisations, and ethical issues that may be encountered in professional practice are examined. At national and international levels, the ethical codes of IFLA and ASLA, the professional conduct principles of TMMOB, and the main regulation of the TMMOB Chamber of Landscape Architects are evaluated, together with members’ duties and responsibilities, honorary board processes and disciplinary provisions. The assessment of the course is based on written examinations, attendance/performance and assignment work. In-semester assessment consists of attendance/performance, assignment work and the midterm examination, accounting for 40% of the total grade. Within this scope, attendance/performance accounts for 5%, assignment work for 20% and the midterm examination for 15% of the total grade. The final examination constitutes the end-of-semester assessment and accounts for 60% of the total grade. Students repeating the course are required to complete all assignments, attendance/performance requirements and examinations in accordance with the current assessment structure of the course.
