Objectives of the Course

The aim of the course is to give information about the types, general properties and usage areas of structural materials used in landscape architecture applications.

Course Content

In this course, the functions of materials used in landscape architecture applications, general properties of materials and material selection criteria are explained and information is given about natural and artificial materials and binders.

Factors affecting material selection: Mechanical, physical and chemical properties, maintenance factors

Classification of materials, information about aggregates
Week 6 - Theoretical
Natural stones: Use of stone in architecture, general properties of stones
Week 7 - Theoretical
Examples of natural stones used in landscape architecture applications: Granite, basalt, syenite, andesite, serpentine
Week 8 - Theoretical
Examples of natural stones used in landscape architecture applications: Marble, slate, travertine, limestone
Week 9 - Theoretical
Classification of stones according to their processing methods: Crushed stone, roughly cut stone, finely cut stone, cut stone
Week 10 - Theoretical
Information about wood material: growth defects in trees, classification of wood source trees according to their hardness
Week 11 - Theoretical
Information on wood veneers and processed wood standards
Week 12 - Theoretical
Information about terracotta-based materials: Ceramics, terracotta bricks and glass mosaic, glass paving and glass brick
