Aims are teaching the concepts and methods used in animal breeding to understand and apply animal breeding strategies.
Aims and importance of animal breeding; Traits considered in animal breeding; Phenotypic variation and its components; Heritability, repeatability and their importance in animal breeding; Concept of selection and its genetic results; Response to selection; Factors affecting the rate of genetic change; Breeding value; Selection for one trait; Selection methods for one trait; Relationships among traits; Indirect selection; Selection for more than one trait; Mating systems; Inbreeding and crossbreeding; Selection and mating strategies among populations, crossbreeding, heterosis and inbreeding; Relationships between selection and mating methods; Modern breeding strategies.
| Lec. Zühal GÜNDÜZ |
| 1. | Explains and interprets the fundamental genetic concepts of animal breeding (qualitative/quantitative traits, heritability, repeatability) |
| 2. | nalyzes population genetic structure and phenotypic variation (genetic and environmental components). |
| 3. | Compares selection methods and determines appropriate breeding strategies. |
| 4. | Evaluates the principles and applications of Marker-Assisted Selection (MAS) and Genomic Selection (GS). |
| 5. | Interprets breeding systems (inbreeding, crossbreeding) and animal breeding programs in Türkiye in an integrated manner. |
