Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to examine the political, economic, and social transformation of Europe, starting from the dissolution of feudalism and passing through turning points such as the Age of Discovery, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment, and the French Revolution; and to analyze the historical foundations of the modern state system and international relations theories.

Course Content

This study examines the transformations Europe underwent from the collapse of feudalism to World War I. It covers events such as the Peace of Westphalia, the Glorious English Revolution, the discovery of the Americas and the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Revolutions of 1830 and 1848, the unification of Italy and Germany, the Russian Revolution of 1906, the Iranian Constitutional Revolution of 1907, and the Ottoman Revolution of 1908.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to comprehend the term of diplomatic history, and also context of diplomatic history.
2.Students taking this course analyze the transition processes in Europe from the feudal system to the capitalist and modern nation-state structure.
3.They learn about the effects of religious divisions (the Reformation process) and sectarian wars on the balance of power in Europe.
4.It examines the social, economic, and political transformation that gave rise to modern republics.
5.Students learn about the historical development of concepts such as human rights, the rule of law, separation of powers, pluralism, and democracy, which are at the root of modern societies and states.
