The primary objective of this course is to critically explore how artificial intelligence reshapes communication theories and practices in the digital age. Students will engage with foundational and contemporary theoretical perspectives to analyze the socio-technical dynamics of AI-driven communication. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically assess the implications of AI for media, discourse, representation, public space, and power relations, and apply theoretical frameworks to current and emerging AI-mediated communication phenomena.
This course aims to critically examine the intersections of artificial intelligence (AI) and communication through key theoretical frameworks. It focuses on the social, cultural, and epistemological transformations brought about by AI technologies in the fields of media, discourse, and public communication. Classical and contemporary theories—ranging from Habermas and Foucault to Castells and Latour—will be reinterpreted in the context of machine-driven communication systems and algorithmic environments.
