Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to enable students to understand communication processes accurately in their personal, academic, and professional lives and to develop effective communication skills in different communication contexts. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to improve their skills in listening, empathy, feedback, verbal and non-verbal communication, persuasion, conflict management, and presentation. The course also aims to help students communicate clearly, effectively, ethically, and responsibly in both face-to-face and digital environments.

Course Content

This course examines the basic elements of the communication process, the production of meaning in interpersonal communication, and the core skills that enable effective communication. Within the scope of the course, listening, empathy, feedback, verbal and non-verbal communication, body language, persuasion, conflict management, group communication, and presentation skills are discussed. In addition, practical activities are carried out to help students communicate clearly, effectively, ethically, and appropriately in both face-to-face and digital communication environments.

Introduction to the course; the concept of communication and the importance of communication in personal, social, and professional life

Basic elements of the communication process: source, message, channel, receiver, feedback, context, and noise
Week 3 - Theoretical
Meaning production in interpersonal communication; perception, attitude, prejudice, and communication barriers
Week 4 - Theoretical
Self-awareness, communication styles, and self-knowledge in effective communication
Week 5 - Theoretical
Effective listening skills; active listening, empathic listening, and giving feedback
Week 6 - Theoretical
Verbal communication skills; clear, understandable, and context-appropriate speaking
Week 7 - Theoretical
Non-verbal communication and body language; gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, use of space, and tone of voice

Empathy, emotional awareness, and building trust in interpersonal relationships
