Objectives of the Course

Observation and interpretation of the pedodontic dental clinic, providing dental practice abilities to dentistry students

Course Content

Growth and development in children, the principles of the occlusion, space maintainers and prostheses for children, traumatic injuries, developmental anomalies, painful complications and treatments, childhood diseases, treatment approaches in children with systemic diseases, bad oral habits, pathologies, ideal treatments and evaluation of prophylactic approaches.

Learning Outcomes
1.Evaluates the psychological developmental characteristics, level of cooperation, and behavior guidance needs of pediatric patients; applies appropriate communication and behavior guidance strategies.
2.Explains the eruption processes of primary and permanent teeth, root resorption of primary teeth, occlusal development, and occlusal relationships; evaluates the need for space maintainers based on clinical findings.
3.Applies the fundamental principles of local anesthesia, tooth extraction, medication administration, and the management of painful complications in pediatric patients, and evaluates these procedures with regard to patient safety.
4.Differentiates developmental dental anomalies, developmental disturbances, molar–incisor hypomineralization, and oral pathologies encountered in pediatric patients; plans appropriate diagnostic and treatment approaches.
5.Classifies luxation injuries and hard tissue injuries affecting primary and immature permanent teeth; evaluates the prevention, emergency management, treatment, and referral processes of dental trauma based on scientific evidence.
6.Plans dental treatment approaches for children with special health care needs, chronic systemic diseases, congenital/genetic disorders, or childhood illnesses; comprehensively evaluates periodontal diseases and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders; and manages digital record-keeping, consultation, referral, and interdisciplinary collaboration processes when required.
