Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to give students general and theoretical knowledge about the history of Turkish music, its interaction with other cultures and music and its current state. In addition, it is to introduce sample works, composers and folk poets to teacher candidates in terms of creating a Turkish music listening list.

Course Content

Music elements belonging to Turkish communities living in Central Asia and Anatolia, Turkish mythology (human, creation, religious rituals and feasts etc.), mythological elements in Turkish Folk Music, types of music in Turkish states and communities, Turkish Folk Music in historical process The development of Turkish Art Music, interaction of different traditions and styles related to music, instruments, composers, performers and sample works.
