Learning Outcomes
.Understand the fundamental concepts of biochemistry, the structure of organic compounds (aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic, heterocyclic), and biochemically important functional groups.
.Explain the structures of amino acids and proteins, properties, kinetics, and inhibition of enzymes, as well as the structure of nucleic acids and the synthesis and degradation of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides.
.Identify the biochemical roles of fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, vitamin-like compounds, minerals, electrolytes, and proteoglycans.
.Apply laboratory safety rules, use basic laboratory equipment, and gain proficiency in solution preparation, measurement, and analytical methods (e.g., spectrophotometry).
.Comprehend the importance of biochemistry in health sciences and understand the clinical and preventive applications of fundamental biochemical processes.
